In March 2023, an EF-3/EF-4 tornado tore through Wynne, hitting hardest in the low-income neighborhoods Walker's predominantly serves. Families lost homes, belongings, and daily stability overnight.
In the weeks that followed, Walker's stepped into an even greater role — becoming a steady, familiar environment for children processing trauma, and a dependable support system for parents working to rebuild their lives. The storm didn't change our mission; it reinforced the necessity of it.
That same commitment carried us through the end of our Early Head Start partnership with Arkansas Early Learning, Inc., when federal funding changes outside our control ended the collaboration. We've continued to uphold the same standard of care ever since.
